Literacy & Numeracy
At Mount Rowan we recognise that literacy and numeracy skills are the core for success, academically and in the workforce.
In years 7 and 8 students who are assessed as being in the lowest quartile in progress in their literacy as measured using PAT testing will be required to join the literacy program. The Literacy program operates as a separate timetabled class which means that students are not withdrawn from regular core curriculum but are regrouped for 2 periods per week for the additional support.
Our numeracy development program uses the Quicksmart strategy which we share with many of our local primary schools. Students who are assessed as being in the lowest quartile in progress in their numeracy as measured using PAT testing will be required to join the Quicksmart Numeracy program. The QS Numeracy program focuses on confidence and mastery of the core number and mathematical elements and is conducted in small tutorial withdrawal groups.
